New podcast: developing resilience after human or natural disasters

The lastest EARC podcast is now available. Experts from Essex and UEA are joined by a colleague from the Open University of Mauritius to look at how individuals and communities develop resilience.

The United Nations defines resilience as ‘the capacity of a system, community or society potentially exposed to hazards to adapt, by resisting or changing in order to reach and maintain an acceptable level of functioning and structure.’

Adapting, resisting and changing are going to be increasingly important as the current climate crisis changes our world, with an increased frequency of flash floods, famines and wildfires, and it’s imperative that we understand how we can learn from previous disasters and prepare for the future.

Joining our Director Phil Ward to discuss these issues are Dr. Gina Yannitell Reinhardt (Department of Government, Essex), Professor Roger Few (School of International Development UEA), Dr Paola Di Giuseppantonio Di Franco (School of Philosophy and Art History at Essex) and Vicky Gookool from the Open University of Mauritius.
