T-PIKE Project Manager appointed

19 November 2024

The Project Manager for Eastern Arc’s £3m T-PIKE project has been appointed. Phil Wilson will be based at the University of Essex, where the project will be managed.

‘This is a really exciting project and I’m looking forward to leading the operational team for it ,’ said Phil. ‘It will give technicians the chance to develop their skills and play an active part in helping businesses and other organisations in the region to make use of our world-leading facilities.’

Phil was previously an Operations Manager for a large secondary school, overseeing all the infrastructure and support services of the academy. Before that he worked at UEA for over 10 years, in a number of roles within the Faculty of Science. He has experience as a postdoctoral researcher, a technician, a manager of the UEA’s Instrument Platforms and a laboratory manager for the Schools of Chemistry, Pharmacy and Environmental Sciences.

‘I’m delighted to welcome Phil to the team,’ said Prof Edd Codling, Faculty Dean Research (S&H) at Essex and the principal investigator for the project. ‘He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the project. He will be a huge asset to T-PIKE, and I very much look forward to working closely with him.’

Jo Scamp, part of the T-PIKE leadership team and the project lead at Kent, agreed. ‘Phil is passionate about recognising the value that technicians add in all areas of research and teaching, and was involved in the original discussions around the development of the Technicians’ Network and Eastern Arc equipment-sharing initiative. It’s great to have him on board.’

T-PIKE Knowledge Exchange Officers (KEOs) are currently being recruited for the universities of East Anglia, Essex and Kent. More details on these are to follow.
