Recording available: The importance of regional heritage

17 November 2025

A recording of the launch event for our report on the economic value of heritage in the Eastern Arc region is now available.

What contribution does heritage make to the regional economy?

Heritage has been estimated to be worth more than £15bn to the UK’s economy, and is a significant source of income for England’s regions.

As we move towards devolution, Eastern Arc published a report that looked at the economic value of heritage within its region, which stretches from the Wash in the North down to Sussex Bay in the South.

Written by Prof David Gill , the report provided local politicians, policymakers and other regional leaders with the data and analysis to inform discussions around devolution, and to ensure that heritage (and the visitor economy) is a key consideration in these.

Whilst the focus is on the EARC region, the report acted as a template for other regions that want to understand the value of their heritage .
