Podcast special editions: the effect of the pandemic on volunteering
05 August 2021
Earlier this year a group of three academics from across the Eastern Arc, together with Irene Hardill from Northumbria, secured funding from the ESRC to look at Mobilising Voluntary Action: Learning from Today, Prepared for Tomorrow. The project commissioned a series of podcasts to discuss the effect of the pandemic on a range of charities. Some had had to ‘pause’ their volunteering services, while others had had to increase them to cope with unprecedented need.
Two of the podcasts are now available on the project website, and also on the Eastern Arc website. The EARC Director, Phil Ward, speaks to charities as diverse as the National Trust, the Aberdeen Arts Centre, Lurgen RFC and Befriending Networks in Scotland to take a measure of how the pandemic has affected their work.
The two episodes are:
- Episode 19 – Special Edition: Pausing volunteering during the pandemic
- Episode 20 – Special Edition: ‘Befriending’ during the pandemic
Tune in to listen to the different experiences of charities across the country, and watch out for the third special edition, which will be recorded over the summer.
