As the 1951 Refugee Convention marks its 75th year, this webinar offers a unique personal perspective on UNHCR’s global mission to protect and support refugees, displaced people and stateless populations. Led by Randhir Gayan Wanigasekara, UNHCR Deputy Representative to the UK, the session will reflect on the challenges, achievements and role of UNHCR in a period of unprecedented displacement and humanitarian need.
Building on the themes explored in the UNHCR Representative, Vicky Tennant’s joint keynote address at the Eastern Arc Conference 2025, Randhir will share insights from his own experience of working within the international protection system, highlighting the human stories behind global policy and the importance of solidarity, partnership and sanctuary. The webinar will provide an opportunity to consider the importance of refugee protection and the role that universities, communities and civic institutions can play in fostering welcome and inclusion.
