Heritage and Culture Network: the Gloucester Project
07 July 2026
The next EARC Heritage and Culture Network meeting will take place on 9 July. It is free and open to all, and is an opportunity to meet and hear from others working on heritage projects in the region. This webinar will hear about the UEA Centre for Shipwrecks and Maritime Heritage. The Centre is an academic research initiative led by the University of East Anglia’s Faculty of Arts and Humanities. It unites historians, archaeologists, and scientists to uncover, preserve, and showcase submerged history in the UK and beyond.
The centre gained global recognition as the academic partner behind the discovery and curation of the 1682 royal warship The Gloucester. Sunk off the Norfolk coast, it is considered one of the most significant maritime discoveries in decades.
Prof Claire Jowitt, the Director of the Centre and Principal Investigator on the Gloucester project, will give an overview of the work of the Centre and of the Gloucester project in particular, the opportunities and challenges of working with a diversity of external partners, the findings, and what the next steps are for the project.
The webinar is free and open to all. To join us, email us at info@easternarc.ac.uk for the link.
