Action learning sets for academic clinical fellows

05 March 2026

Brighton and Sussex Medical School are setting up action learning sets (ALSs) for academic clinical fellows, and are opening them up to colleagues across the Eastern Arc. They will be via Teams, so it should be possible for those at the other EARC universities to take part.
Please be aware that this is for academic clinical fellows only, not academics or ECRs.
If you are interested in setting up and running such ALSs for colleagues in other roles, do contact us and we would be happy to explore the possibilities and support you in it.

ACF Action Learning Sets

Balancing a clinical and academic career is rewarding, but does come with additional challenges. I hope that the ALS sessions will provide a confidential space for everyone to share experiences, discuss issues and devise strategies to overcome the hurdles faced. The principle of the ALS is to outline an issue you may be concerned about, followed by group discussion and development of a plan of action. At future sessions you can reflect on any changes made and whether they worked. The sessions will also provide the opportunity for career planning.
To make the sessions accessible to as many participants as possible, we will be hosting them via Teams. The first introductory meeting is scheduled for Monday 27th March at 10:00am for an hour. If you’re interested in learning more about ALS and joining future sessions which will take place approximately once a month on mutually convenient dates and times rather than always on Fridays please join us. To receive a Teams invitation for the first session, email Deeptima Massey at d.massey@bsms.ac.uk
