We have launched a new Eastern Arc Fund, to encourage and support collaborations between the universities of East Anglia (UEA), Essex, and Kent.
Eastern Arc was established in 2013 and is now entering its second phase. In its first five years it was focussed on three themes, but we’re now intending to broaden it out and use the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals to frame and direct our efforts. These offer an urgent and necessary set of 17 targets that are equally relevant to the UK and the countries of the Global North as they are to those in the Global South.
This aspiration will be confirmed once our strategy for 2020-25 is formally adopted later this year. In the meantime we have set up the Eastern Arc Fund to encourage and support collaboration between two or more of the partner universities in meeting these goals. It is intended to be light-touch, flexible and transparent, and can be used for a wide range of activity, including:
• pilot projects
• visits and exchanges
• workshops, sandpits and other events.
